o At the town entrance stands a war memorial with a long list of the names of islanders who fell for liberty
o To the left and right of the entrance, along the former town walls, the road leads to the eastern and to the northern town gates, witnesses of days gone by, through which this town, known to the Greeks as Crepsa, used to be entered
o Later, as sea routes developed, Cres became an important town and harbour with all the characteristics of a medieval urban centre. It was guarded by Venetian towers, one of which still rises in the north-western part of the town. It was built in the 16th century
o Town Museum includes exhibits from the life of the common people. In front of the Clock Tower is a large town square with a Loggia and the harbour. Behind the tower is the church of Mary of the Snows, built in the 16th century, of outstanding beauty.
o The parish offices have a painting by Vivarini, and on the altar of St. Aloysius is a picture of the town of Cres. There are also other religious works of art from the most celebrated Venetian schools, mostly from the 15th to the 17th centuries.
o In the eastern part of the town is the Franciscan Monastery and Church, which has existed in Cres since the 13th century
